A high-quality medicinal mushroom product starts at the mushroom farm. We've created a video to show you the steps medicinal mushroom producers should be taking to ensure that their mushrooms are grown in a way that enables them to optimally develop all those vital ingredients we are after.Firstly, you need the right location. Clean nature with lots of pure water, away from pollution sources like factories or big cities.Second, you need experienced farmers who know what each mushroom species needs. What is the right growing material for them? How long does it take for this particular species to ripen? How can you grow the mushroom with as little, if any, pesticides?Third: You want to be able to recycle and reuse as much possible of the growing materials, in order to stay sustainable.Fourth: You need a personal relationship with your farmers in order to make sure all of the above is truly happening. This ensures the supplier can grow the best possible medicinal mushroom raw materials for their customers. In a sense, growing medicinal mushrooms is not that difficult. If you know what your doing, like, since generations. And if you don't, well, we recommend you find someone who does. ๐

Mushroom spawnIn mushroom cultivation, mushroom spawn is needed. Nowadays, we differentiate the following spawn processing types:1๏ธโฃ "grain spawn" when the grain (rye, Triticale, wheat, millet, etc.) carries the mushroom mycelium2๏ธโฃ "stick spawn" when some type of wood (flat wooden sticks, loop sticks, dowels, etc.) is woven with mycelium and used for spawning3๏ธโฃ โfast-spawnโ or โsynthetic spawn", mainly for Agaricus. The development of โsynthetic spawn" has been motivated by green mold (Trichoderma) infections in cultivation, which cause severe crop loss. The high carbohydrate content in compost (which may be due to grain spawn) enhances the appearance of green mold, so producers have been looking for moulds that contain less carbohydrates. This kind of "synthetic spawn" contains more mycelium per unit volume than grain, so it is sufficient to mix a smaller amount into the mushroom substrate. According to some data, the spawning is also faster, so the cultivation cycle may be shorter.#biofungi #mushrooms #compost #cultivation #spawn #circulareconomy #mycelium

MUSHROOM CULTIVATION ๐ Mushrooms are the fruiting bodies of a fungus, just like apples are the fruiting bodies of an apple tree. A mushroom is a kind of fungus with the Latin name of Agaricus bisporus. Other cultivated mushrooms in the Netherlands are the oyster mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus) and the shiitake (Japanese mushroom) (Lentinula edodes). In the vegetable kingdom the mushroom is ranked with the heterotrophic organisms (lower plants). In contrast to the higher, green plants, these heterotrophs are not capable of photosynthesis. Fungi are the scavengers of nature. In mushroom cultivation too, waste products such as chicken manure, horse manure, straw, gypsum and waste water (from their own composting) are used to produce a high-quality substrate from which the mushrooms will grow. Ammonia is removed by means of an ammonia washer from the process air before it is returned to nature. Even the ammonia from the air is used as a source of nitrogen in composting. The fungus, also called mycelium, uses the compost as a source of energy for its combustion, in which energy is released that is used for growth. #snsinstitutions #snsdesignthinkers #snsdesignthinking
